За запазване на устойчивостта на бялата мида се обявиха участници в дискусия по темата, свързани с улова на белите пясъчни миди в Черно море. Модератор беше заместник-министърът на земеделието и храните Стефан Бурджев, а становища изразиха изпълнителният директор на ИАРА д-р Николай Георгиев, директорът на Басейнова дирекция „Черноморски район“ инж. Явор Димитров, представители на Министерството на земеделието и храните, представители на Министерството на околната среда и водите, учени от БАН, Институт по рибни ресурси – Варна, Институт по биоразнообразие и екосистемни изследвания (ИБЕИ), Центъра за подводна археология, както и представители на водещите браншови организации.
В хода на разговорите беше обсъдена възможността за законодателни изменения в Закона за рибарството и аквакултурите по отношение на разрешаване на уред за улов на бели пясъчни миди.

Представителите на бизнеса застъпиха тезата, че е необходимо да се разреши въвеждането на дънен уред за улов на бели пясъчни миди, който не застрашава морското екоравновесие.
Експертите от МЗХ и МОСВ подчертаха, че законодателството ни разрешава единствено използването на водолазен способ като незабранен метод за стопански улов на видовете от групата на белите пясъчни миди. 

Научната общност изрази мнение, че използването на подобен дънен уред за улов на бели пясъчни миди, минава през мониторинг на неговото въздействие върху морското дъно и промени в Закона за рибарство и аквакултури и Закона за опазване на околната среда, както и серия от мерки за ограничаване на риболовния натиск върху морското биоразнообразие.

Заместник-министър Бурджев заяви, че началото на такъв тип дискусии с максимално широка представителност за заинтересовани лица е от полза както за стопанската дейност, така и за биологичното равновесие в Черноморския басейн.
Участниците в дискусията се обединиха около становището да продължат разговорите с оглед намиране на най-добрите експертни решения. Те изразиха благодарност към МЗХ за провеждане на срещата и даване на възможност за добър и професионален диалог за пръв път в подобен формат.
